Mesnaum injection (Mesna) can combine with acrolein into nontoxic compound by its hydrosulfide group (SH), It can combine with 4-OH-cyclophosphamide and 4-OH-iphosphamide to avoid cystitis. As a protective agent of urinary tract, Mesna can be applied to avoid toxicity of urinary system epithelium such as hemorrhagic cystitis when using high dose of iphosphamide or cyclophosphamide to cure tumor.
Mesna is mainly applied to combine with cyclophosphamide or iphosphamide, so as to avoid hemorrhagic cystitis.
